The Peace & Reconciliation Committee paved the way to entrepreneurship
Juba, South Sudan 

Angelina is a 35-year-old woman who lives in a refugee camp in Mangateen, Juba, South Sudan. She is a mother of three young children. Shortly after her arrival at the camp, she joined the Peace and Reconciliation Committee (PRC), a DMI initiative that advocates for peace while promoting financial freedom through its planned group activities. Members of PRC attend microfinance programs where they are advised in financial management, encouraged to regularly save money, and have access to micro-loans so that they can build and manage their own businesses.

Angelina received a small loan as a member of the PRC which she put to good use by starting a small shop inside the camp. DMI Sisters and staff mentored her, assisting her with setting-up and managing her business. The business has provided her with much-needed income and allows her to be financially self-sufficient.

When asked what she likes about being a member of PRC, she cites the sense of belonging and working together for one another and for the community. Angelina is grateful to DMI staff. Membership in PRC has allowed her to support herself and contribute to peace in the camp.
